Lord Jagannath is an important deity worshiped in Hinduism. He is considered as a form of Vishnu and is a part of the triad among his brother Balabhadra & sister Subhadra. Replacing an earlier temple, this temple was rebuilt from 10th Century onwards. The english term for Jagannath is Juggernaut.

The Jagannath temple in Puri is famous for its annual Rath Yatra, or chariot festival. The three principal deities are pulled on huge and elaborately decorated temple cars.
