Kalkatte Vaali is a conscious, homegrown brand from the heart of Kolkata, born from a deep love for Bengal’s rich textile traditions and a desire to keep its legacy alive through craftsmanship and community. We specialise in Kantha embroidery and folk textile arts from Bengal, working closely with clusters of rural women artisans who bring stories to life—one stitch at a time.
At Kalkatte Vaali, we don’t just sell handcrafted products—we co-create cultural narratives. Our offerings reflect the textures, tales, and traditions of Bengal, carefully crafted to resonate with modern sensibilities while remaining rooted in age-old techniques.
Our work revolves around India’s celebrated Kantha embroidery—an ancient quilting technique known for its running stitches and storytelling patterns, originally practised by women in Bengal to repurpose old cloth into heirlooms. We reimagine this legacy through a curated range of handcrafted pieces, including:
Tussar Silk Kantha Sarees:
Woven from pure handloom Tussar silk and embroidered with intricate Kantha motifs, our sarees are timeless pieces of wearable art. Each saree is a canvas—featuring motifs inspired by folklore, nature, mythology, and village life. Ideal for celebrations, collectors, and conscious fashion lovers who seek elegance with meaning.
Kantha Dupattas & Stoles:
Our hand-embroidered dupattas and stoles, crafted on handwoven Tussar silk, blend functionality with folk artistry. Lightweight, versatile, and detailed with regional narratives, they elevate everyday and occasion wear with cultural depth.
Embroidered Cushion Covers:
A staple of our home decor line, these covers bring warmth, heritage, and handmade beauty into your spaces. Crafted using detailed folk patterns and dense Kantha stitches, they serve both comfort and conversation.
Wall Hangings & Textile Art:
We offer an evolving range of Tussar silk fabric wall art—where embroidery, texture, and storytelling come together. Designs include enlarged rustic motifs, animals from Bengal folklore, and scenes of rural life—crafted with care on canvas, Tussar, and cotton.
Urban Sketch & Pattachitra-Inspired Crafts:
Bridging the traditional and the contemporary, our mixed media collection includes Urban Sketch-style pieces and Pattachitra-inspired wall art and accents. These reinterpret folk elements with a modern visual style, appealing to collectors and design-conscious buyers.
At the core of Kalkatte Vaali is a growing community of women artisans from Bengal, spread across three rural clusters. These skilled hands carry generations of knowledge and are the true soul of every product we make. By collaborating directly with these women, we ensure fair wages, consistent work, and dignified recognition of their art.
We see ourselves as enablers and storytellers—not just as designers or sellers. Our brand thrives on a shared ethos of trust, transparency, and cultural pride. Each piece passes through many hands and hearts before reaching yours.
Sustainability: We practice slow production with an emphasis on quality over quantity. Most of our products are made in small batches to minimise waste.
Ethical Sourcing: We work with weavers, dyers, and embroiders using traditional techniques and natural or locally sourced materials wherever possible.
Cultural Preservation: Every product is an ode to Bengal’s living craft heritage. We aim to protect and promote regional crafts like Kantha and Pattachitra in ways that are both respectful and relevant.
