CompareIn Jalapadma, the canvas is as much a part of the story as the embroidery itself.
Hand embroidered in the traditional Kantha craft of Bengal, the artwork brings together lotus and fish motifs across handwoven Tussar silk. Here, the Tussar silk is imagined as water—a quiet expanse upon which lotuses bloom and fish move through an intricately stitched landscape.
The composition draws from imagery deeply rooted in Bengal. Fish and lotus, both recurring motifs in the region’s visual and cultural vocabulary, come together in a rhythmic arrangement of colour, form and hand-drawn imperfection.
Every line is built through stitch. The visible character of the embroidery, the slight variations in the motifs and the natural texture of handwoven Tussar are deliberately retained, allowing the hand of the artisan to remain present in the finished work.
Framed with an understated mount and clean-lined wooden frame, Jalapadma moves beyond traditional textile craft to become a piece of contemporary Indian textile wall art—equally suited to a thoughtfully curated home, an art-led interior or a collection celebrating India’s living craft traditions.
