Kumortuli-Urban Sketch

Although the look & feel of Kumortuli is age old & very humbling, the sculpotors not only manufacture & fashion the idols for various Indian festivals in India, they also export them. The sketch depicts the idol of Goddess Kali, who has been completely embelished & fashioned. She is waiting to be carried by her devotees from the potter's quarter. There is another small & very sketcy idol of Kali right beside the big one. She has been placed on a cart, carried by her devotees from another community or area seated around her & holding her. She is being revered by her devotees from all walks of life at various capacities. Rabindra Sarani – Urban sketch, streets of Kolkata
₹9,410.00Rabindra Sarani, Kolkata, is one of the most famous thoroughfares in the city. When we talk about the built heritage of Kolkata, the discussion is usually limited to mansions, and sometimes, memorials. Rarely do we talk about roads of Kolkata, which are just as old and form the basic infrastructure of the city. If we talk about the oldest road of Kolkata, it is the well-known Rabindra Sarani, earlier known as Chitpur Road ( its present name has been drawn from the name of its iconic resident, Sri Rabindranath Tagore,) which is believed to be almost 400-years old. On weekdays, the crowd on this stretch makes it very difficult to walk leisurely. However, one can always try a tram ride on this route on a weekday. Rath Yatra- Festival of Chariots -Urban Sketch
₹7,000.00During the Jagannath Rath jatra or Rath Yatra, the triads ( Jagannath, Subadhra & Bal Bhadra) are usually worshiped in the sanctum of the temple at Puri, but once during the month of Asadha (Rainy Season of Odisha, usually falling in month of June or July), they are brought out onto the Bada Danda (main street of Puri)and travel (3 km) to the Shri Gundicha Temple, in huge chariots (ratha), allowing the public to have darśana (Holy view). This festival is known as Rath Jatra, meaning the journey (jatra) of the chariots (ratha). The 5th day of the month of Maagh coined the name Panchami. Saraswti, as she is worshiped as the goddess of music & arts is believed to have born on this day. Rituals are performed & devotees wear yellow that signifies flowering of mustard & it is believed to be the Goddess's favourite colour for it speaks abundance. Among Bengalees, children are made to write their first word on this day which is considered as a significant step towards the world of education, art, music & culture. Education institutions remain shut for a day. Students stay away from books just for a day so as to please the Goddess.
